BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

 

Suniti Jiban Chakma was born in January in 1965 in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh. He started painting as he was very young and studied Fine Arts in the best University of Bangladesh. After his graduation from the Institute of fine Arts of Dhaka University, he made several exhibitions to establish himself as an artist.

But, in 1989, he must leave the country because of its commitment to human rights in the resistance movement of minorities which he belongs to. He gets then the political asylum in France in 1990 and enters Fine Art School to go on with his higher studies thanks to a scholarship granted by the French Cultural Ministry from 1990 to 1994.He is graduated with honors from the Fine Arts Institute of Rennes where he also studied multimedia courses. From 1995 to 2001, he worked in a studio that was granted by the City of Rennes. He obtains French Nationality in 1995.
Meanwhile, he continued his artistic career interrupted in Bangladesh. In 1991, an important solo exhibition is organized in Paris, in La Grande Arche de la Fraternité. He takes part in various solo and group exhibitions in France and abroad. From 1994, his paintings were exhibited several times in Japan, in a Contemporary Art gallery as well as in a museum of fine Arts in Osaka. Suniti Jiban Chakma has been living and working as free-lance artist since 1998 in Le Mans, Sarthe.
